Plain English summary: Tacktiq collects the minimum data needed to provide sailing performance analysis. We don't sell your data, show you ads, or share your information with third parties for marketing. Your sailing sessions and performance data belong to you.

Tacktiq is a mobile application developed and operated by Gybe Digital LLC, a Massachusetts limited liability company ("we," "us," or "our"). Our contact email is igor@tacktiq.com.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use the Tacktiq iOS application and associated services.
📋 Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Account information: Email address and display name when you create an account
- Profile data: Home port, boat information (name, class, sail number), weekly sailing goals
- Session data: Session names, venues, notes, wind conditions, and performance data you manually enter
- Polar curves: Boat performance targets you configure in the app
Information collected automatically during use
- GPS location: Latitude, longitude, speed, and heading recorded during active sailing sessions. Location is only recorded when you explicitly start a session recording.
- Device sensors: Accelerometer and gyroscope data used to detect tacks, gybes, and heel angle during sessions
- Session metrics: Calculated performance data including VMG efficiency, tack recovery times, and speed statistics
Information from third-party services
- Supabase: We use Supabase for authentication and cloud data storage. See Supabase Privacy Policy
- Anthropic Claude API: When you use the Tacktiq Coach feature, session summaries and your questions are sent to Anthropic's API to generate coaching responses. See Anthropic Privacy Policy
- RevenueCat: Used to manage subscription purchases. See RevenueCat Privacy Policy
- Open-Meteo / NOAA: Weather and tide data is fetched using your approximate location. These are public APIs that do not receive personally identifiable information.
🎯 How We Use Your Information
- To provide sailing performance tracking and analysis features
- To generate AI coaching responses through the Tacktiq Coach feature
- To sync your data across devices via our cloud backend
- To display current weather and tide conditions relevant to your location
- To process subscription purchases and manage your account
- To send you a launch notification if you joined our waitlist (with your consent)
- To improve the app based on aggregate, anonymized usage patterns
We do not: sell your data to third parties, use your data for advertising, share your personal information with other users, or use your sailing data to train AI models.
📍 Location Data
Tacktiq requests access to your device's location to record GPS tracks during sailing sessions. Location access is used exclusively for:
- Recording your sailing track during active sessions
- Calculating speed, distance, and heading data
- Fetching local weather and tide information
We request "While Using the App" location permission. We do not track your location in the background outside of an active recording session. You can disable location access in iOS Settings at any time, though this will limit GPS tracking features.
🤖 AI Coaching (Claude API)
When you use the Tacktiq Coach feature, the following data is sent to Anthropic's Claude API:
- Session summaries (duration, conditions, leg data, VMG statistics)
- Your boat's polar curves and class information
- Your questions and the conversation history within a coaching session
This data is processed by Anthropic to generate coaching responses. We do not send personally identifiable information (name, email, exact GPS coordinates) to the Claude API. Please review Anthropic's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle API data.
💾 Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored in two places:
- On your device: A local SQLite database (WatermelonDB) stores all your session data for offline access
- Supabase cloud: Your data is synced to a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase on AWS infrastructure in the United States
We implement reasonable security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), row-level security policies, and authenticated API access. However, no method of electronic transmission is 100% secure.
🔄 Data Retention & Deletion
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can:
- Delete individual sessions from within the app at any time
- Request complete deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing igor@tacktiq.com
- Export your data by contacting us — we will provide a copy in a common format
Upon account deletion, we will remove your personal data from our systems within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
👶 Children's Privacy
Tacktiq is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at igor@tacktiq.com.
🌍 International Users
Tacktiq is operated from the United States. If you are located outside the United States, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using Tacktiq, you consent to this transfer.
🔔 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, through an in-app notification. Continued use of Tacktiq after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
